Anna Holcomb Deshler Miller Schankel was born March 7, 1922 to Alan Bertram Miller and Katharine Runyon Miller in Philadelphia, PA. She attended Moravian Seminary for Girls in Bethlehem, PA and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana. During World War II she worked for the Office of Strategic Services (the predecessor to the CIA) in Washington, DC and met and married Norman Schankel Jr, who was serving in the army. Eventually settling with her family in the Norristown area, she worked for the American Red Cross in Norristown and the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit before retiring. She was preceded in death by her husband Norman Schankel, Jr., and her brother Alan Miller, Jr. She is survived by her three children, Alan, Weir, and Helen, her sister Martha Miller Tappan, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
