Carmela Bruno Gammarino, a long time resident of Norristown, Pennsylvania, died on June 22, 2016.  Carmela was born on April 9, 1926 in Montella, Italy.  After a fire at the courthouse that held birth records, her birthday was forever switched to April 10th, which was also her mother’s birthday.  Carmela was the second eldest of ten siblings.   After WWII, Carmela married Luigi Gammarino of Montemarano, Italy, and had three children. In 1958, Carmela followed her husband to the United States and eventually settled in Norristown to be near her sister, Gemma Gelet (deceased), brother Aldo Bruno (deceased), and extended family members from the Montella area.

Her life changed dramatically once she became diabetic.  Keeping the disease under control was a constant challenge, and she endured years of painful health complications.  But Carmela was always an incredibly strong woman who never complained and carried on.  She was a caring and generous person with a fantastic laugh who was famous for her homemade ravioli.  Her love for her family was contagious; she was dearly loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Carmela was preceded in death by her parents,Michael and Dolcelina Bruno; her husband, Luigi; and her siblings, Rafaela, Salvatore, Aldo, Elvira, Gemma, Alberto.

Carmela is survived by her three children and their spouses: Eva and Thomas Lemker, Alfred and Cathy Gammarino, and Adam Gammarino; six grandchildren: Christina, Michael, Jennifer, Kathleen, Anthony, and Eric; eight great grandchildren; brothers, Ennio Bruno of Norristown and Erminio Bruno of Switzerland; sister, Elisa Romano of Montella, Italy; and many nieces and nephews.

May she be at peace and know how much her family loves her.
