Richard L. Pigeon, age 93 of Norristown, Pennsylvania, passed away in his home on Friday evening, October 28, 2016.

Richard was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania on June of 1923. He was the son of the late Albert and Anna Pigeon.

Richard was a devoted husband to his late wife Adeline. Richard and Adeline shared 58 years of marriage till she passed away in 2007. He missed her very much and it took him years to cope with her passing. He never remarried or pursued another relationship.

Richard is survived by his four loving sons—Albert (Joy), Richard (Brenda), Robert, and Donald (Andrea).

Richard is also survived by his loving grandchildren—Tabitha, Noah, Lauren, Candice, Jacquelyn, Renee, Eric, Jennifer, Anthony, and by four great-grandchildren—Michael, Alexander, Emerson, and Paige. Richard is also survived by his nephew Robert Caperila (Nancy).

Besides his wife, Richard, the youngest of his siblings, was preceded in death by three sisters— Mora and Kathryn (both stillborn), and Anna, and by two brothers—Albert and John.

Richard was a WWII veteran. During the War he was quick to enlist in the army but because of his small size he could not serve overseas. He was stationed in Texas and also in Fort Lawton, Washington where he was promoted to Private 1st Class Non-commissioned Officer, then to Tec 5 Ward Attendant where he served in the officer’s ward of a station hospital and eventually was in charge of 25 other ward attendants. His promotion to corporal was cut short due to the end of the War.

Richard took pride in his early career as a television technician; and later as a security guard at Superior Tube until he retired.

Richard attended Christian services faithfully with his wife. He was also a long-time member of several organizations including—the American Legion, Gun Owners of America, the NRA, the Maenner Chor, and the Elks.

As a young man, Richard enjoyed beer and cigars, cars and motorcycles, playing darts, walking, gardening, and jokes. Later in life he enjoyed watching TV, eating, and reading the Bible. Richard was often quick to give a humorous reply, even when asked a serious question. He loved chocolate and could be enticed to complete his therapy exercises with a chocolate reward.

Richard’s family would like to acknowledge his Doctors—Charles Cutler, Jeffrey Miller, Mark Pyfer, and Arthur Belber—for their care over the years.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Volpe Funeral home from 11:30 AM - 12:30  on Friday, November 11, 2016, followed by a service beginning at 12:30 PM. Military honors will conclude the service at 1:00 PM. The service will be followed by a repass.
