John A. “Chappy” Ciabattoni Sr. passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on Saturday, May 19, 2018 surrounded by his family. Born on February 1, 1929 in Norristown, John is the son of the late Nazzareno Sr. and Julia Moleski Ciabattoni and is the beloved husband of Esther Dragone Ciabattoni.
John is survived by his sons John Jr., David (Michele) and Kevin (Michelle); grandchildren Dana Katubi (Jonathan), Christanna, John III, Daniel (Meredith) and Nicholas; great-granddaughter Ella; sisters Laura DeCicco and Phyllis Sylvester; and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his baby daughter Cristina and siblings Augustine “Gus,” Joseph, Annie Werkiser, Mary, Nazzarene Jr., and Julio “Curly.”
John was a proud resident of Norristown and parishioner of Visitation BVM. A veteran of the Korean conflict, he worked for Norristown Excavating Contractors and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #542 for 65 years and taught their apprenticeship program. John was also a member of the Men of Malvern for 25 years, The Marchigiana Club of Norristown and the Holy Savior Senior Citizens Club.
John and Esther celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage and enjoyed celebrating holidays and traditions with their family.
Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 8:30am to 10:30am at Volpe Funeral Home, 707 W. Germantown Pike. John’s funeral Mass will follow at 11am at Visitation BVM Upper Church, 196 N. Trooper Road. Interment will be held at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
