David Brown Obituary

The Rev. David B. Brown passed away on December 27, 2021.  A resident of Ambler, Pa., he was 83 years old.  He is the beloved husband of Irene (Kreamer) Brown.

Rev. Brown was born in Long Branch, N.J., on April 22, 1938, and was the oldest of four sons of the late Franklin and Laura (Pinson) Brown.  In 1956, he graduated from Long Branch High School, where he was captain of the track and cross-country teams.  After attending Providence Barrington Bible College in Rhode Island for one year, Mr. Brown transferred to Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas.  As a senior, he was captain of the track team for the Cowboys and received his bachelor’s degree in 1961.  Mr. Brown then entered Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in St. Davids, Pa., and he was ordained as a minister in the American Baptist Convention.  During his career, Rev. Brown served several congregations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.

Rev. and Mrs. Brown married on October 3, 1964, and they celebrated their golden anniversary in 2014 with many friends and family.  In addition to his wife, Rev. Brown is survived by his three sons, David (Laurie), Stephen, and Jason Brown; and his five grandchildren, David, Alex, Juliet, Caroline, and Andrew.

Rev. Brown had a lifelong love of travel that began when he spent a summer working on a farm in West Germany in 1960.  Numerous trips followed over the next five decades, covering every corner of Europe, including many trips to the British Isles, as well as visiting the Holy Land.  Many of his trips were made in connection with his hobbies of learning about the early history of the Christian church and hymnology, and photography.  A resident since 1979 of Ambler, where he pastored Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Rev. Brown was well known in his retirement years for his daily walks through town, usually with one of his beloved dogs.

A memorial service will be held on April 23, 2022, at the Church of the Brethren on Butler Avenue in Ambler. Burial will be private.
