Deacon James “Jim” Mahar passed away on Monday, December 1, 2025 at the age of 80. Dcn. Mahar, of King of Prussia, was a long-term member of the Mother of Divine Providence Church, also in King of Prussia. Jim served as a permanent Deacon at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Norristown.
Jim was born in Albany, New York on January 18, 1945 and was the son of the late James and Barbara (Brunner) Mahar. He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Schinnerer) Mahar, daughters Kathy (Jim) Blanks, Tricia (Ken) Weber, and Jennifer (Rik) Mahar, son Peter (MaryKay) Mahar, and brothers Michael David Mahar, Jonathan Paul (Kim) Mahar, and William Mahar. Jim is also survived by nine grandchildren: Jonathan, Morgan, Luci, Sarah, Kate, Jenny, Lex, Charley, and Payton. He was predeceased by his son John Mahar, whom Jim and Sharon dedicated themselves to providing with endless love and care.
Jim is a graduate of Siena College in Loudonville, NY and received a Masters degree in Computer Science from SUNY at Albany, NY. He was a retired Systems Analyst for Unisys Corporation. He was passionate about gardening and spent many hours caring for his yard. Jim also loved listening to jazz music, coaching (in his younger years), and refereeing soccer. In his time as a Deacon, Jim especially loved visiting the sick and the homebound, bringing them Communion and praying with them.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, December 10 AM from 9:15 to 10:45 AM followed by a Mass Christian burial at the Mother of Divine Providence Church 333 Allendale Rd. King of Prussia, PA, 19406. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial contributions be made to the Mother of Divine Providence church or to Alzheimer's Association (alz.org). Funeral arrangements are in the care of the Volpe funeral home (volpefh.com).
