The Life Story of Donald Larry Washington
Donald Larry Washington was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He made the most of every day, filling his life with love, laughter, and family. Born on March 16, 1941, in Norristown, Pennsylvania, to George Washington Sr. and Novada (Brown) Washington, he departed this life peacefully on February 26, 2025.
From a young age, Donald exhibited strength and determination. He attended Phoenixville School District and built a career in construction, working diligently for many years. His hardworking spirit led him to excel in his field, and he later became a real estate entrepreneur, using his skills and knowledge to build a legacy beyond his primary career. He continued his dedication to service until his retirement from Montgomery Hospital Security Department after 17 years.
Donald’s love story began at Lou’s Hoagie Shop, where he met the love of his life, Karen “Kay Kay” Washington. Their bond was instant and undeniable, leading to a beautiful marriage that lasted 46 years. They were wed on September 6, 1980, building a home filled with love, faith, and countless cherished memories.
A man of great strength, both in body and spirit, Donald was a bodybuilder and a black belt in karate. Despite his towering presence, he was known for his gentle and kind nature, always humble and willing to help anyone in need. His home was never empty, always filled with children, grandchildren, family and an abundance of love. He had a passion for traveling and dancing with his wife, fishing, and, above all, spending quality time with his family.
Affectionately known as 'Big Don' by many, and was endearingly called 'Wash' by his beloved wife, Karen, he dedicated his life to the Lord and was baptized at the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith by Bishop Anthony Patterson. He never ended a day without expressing his love or making amends, embodying the true essence of kindness and forgiveness.
Donald is survived by his beloved wife, Karen (Mason) Washington; his six children, Cynthia (Darryl) Carter, Donald Washington Jr., Reynolds (Tiffany) Mason-Washington, Donnell(Stephanie) Washington, Alenia (Anthony) Graham, George (Tamara) Washington and Lamont, Richard, Shannon and Carl; sixteen grandchildren: Christian, Marcus, Donae, Amya, Aubrei, Anthony Jr., Za’kyla, Reynolds, Donnie, Kayla, Aidan, Jaidan, Alex, Nori, Milan, Aieko, and November; and four great-grandchildren: Giavani, Christiana, Davonn, and Akari. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Louise Gaafar; his brother, Elder George (Theodora) Washington; two brothers and two sisters; as well as a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers Thomas, William, Richard, and James, and his sister Florence.
Donald Larry Washington’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering faith. He was the heart of his family, a man who would do anything for anyone, always putting others before himself. His legacy will continue to live on through the lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the boundless love he shared.
Relatives and friends are invited to his graveside service on Wednesday March 5, 2025 at 11am at the Valley Forge Memorial Garden, 352 S Gulph Road King of Prussia.
