Dorothy C. Loy, 92, of Wayne, PA, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away peacefully Satruday September 20, 2025. She was the wife of Dr. Edgar L. Loy, VMD, who passed in 2022 and with whom she had shared 67 years of marriage.
Born October 11, 1932 in West Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late William W. and Dorothy S. Pratt. Dorothy grew up in Yeadon, PA in West Philadelphia and spoke fondly of her summers at the Jersey shore in Wildwood, NJ, where she lived through the Great Depression and WWII years with everybody else. She always spoke of the very dear friends that she had while growing up, both in Yeadon and in Wildwood. She graduated from Yeadon High School and attended nursing school at Philadelphia General Hospital.
Her family relocated to the Harrisburg, PA area in 1954 where she worked for a local Pediatrician. After she met and married Edgar, she dedicated her life to raising her family and supporting his growing Veterinarian practice, first in Newville, PA and then in New Cumberland and Lower Allen, PA.
She had a great many interests but above all else was always trying to learn something new, whether that be through reading or traveling. Dorothy was an accomplished Bridge player, having attained the ranking of Silver Life Master.
Above all else, Dorothy was very proud of and cherished her family. She is survived by 5 children, Deitra (Loy) Arena and husband Sam of Worcester, PA, Phillip Loy and wife Maria of Camp Hill PA, Faith (Loy) Pennypacker and husband Barry of Berwyn, PA, John Loy and wife Dori of Lynchburg, VA, and Paul Loy and wife Sara of Abbottstown, PA; 14 grandchildren, Alex Arena, Emily Cately, Peter Loy, Anna Bixler, Olivia Loy, Rosalia Loy, Amelia Summers, Adam Pennypacker, Amanda Tomaj, Luke Loy, Jenna Loy, Samantha Loy, Sydnee Loy, and Chase Loy; and 9 great-grandchildren.
She will be missed greatly by her loving family.
Private burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with her husband. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
