Dr. Edgar L. Loy VMD, 95, of Wayne, PA, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away peacefully Friday, May 6, 2022. He was the husband of Dorothy C. (Pratt) Loy with whom he shared 67 years of marriage.
Born October 1, 1926 in Newville, PA he was the son of the late Guy L. Loy and Florence (Zeigler) Loy. He was a United States Navy Veteran of WWII, having been drafted during his senior year of High School. He was a proud plank owner of the USS Los Angeles and served upon her until his discharge from the Navy in 1947. Later, he was also a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Dr. Loy graduated from the Pennsylvania State University and then the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. He practiced veterinary medicine for over 50 years, first as a large animal veterinarian in the Newville area, then as an owner of the West Shore Veterinary Hospital, and finally as the owner of the Lower Allen Veterinary Clinic. He retired in 2013 at the age of 86.
Above all else, Dr. Loy cherished his family, his country, and God. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by 5 children, Deitra (Loy) Arena and husband Sam of Worcester, PA, Phil Loy and wife Maria of Camp Hill PA, Faith (Loy) Pennypacker and husband Barry of Berwyn, PA, John Loy and wife Dori of Garden Grove CA, and Paul Loy and wife Sara of Abbottstown, PA; 14 grandchildren, Alex Arena, Emily (Charles) Cately, Peter Loy, Anna (Ryan) Bixler, Olivia Loy, Rosalia Loy, Amelia (Cody) Summers, Adam (Shannon) Pennypacker, Amanda (Gjon) Tomaj, Luke Loy, Jenna Loy, Samantha Loy, Sydnee Loy, and Chase Loy; and 7 great-grandchildren. He will be missed greatly by his loving family.
Private burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice or to the Wounded Warrior Project (support.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate).
