George James Byrd Jr., Retired U.S. Army Sergeant Major, passed away peacefully on 14 April 2025. Born on November 11, 1944, George lived a life marked by service, dedication, and love.

A proud veteran, George served his country with honor and distinction, rising to the rank of Sergeant Major in the United States Army. His leadership, strength, and unwavering commitment to his fellow soldiers left a lasting impact on all who served with him.

Beyond his military career, George was a devoted husband, father, and brother. He is survived by his loving wife, Patsy Knox-Byrd; his son, George J. Byrd III; and his daughters, Carol Simpson, Cheryl Byrd, and Pamela Grant. He also leaves behind eight beloved brothers and sisters, who will remember him as a guiding light and a steady presence in their lives.
