Gladys Oluchi Nwosu was born on the 2nd of February 1948 in a small village in Umuahia called Umuogba Elugwu Ekeoba in Ohuhu Umuahia, Abia State of Nigeria. Oluchi was born to her late mother, Nsonma Nwiwu Nwosu and her late father, Mr. Edwin Nwiwu Nwosu.
Oluchi was the second daughter amongst five other siblings born from her own mother. Oluchi was raised by her elder sister, the late Ada Nwiwu. Oluchi was born and raised in a Methodist Family and was a member of the Methodist Church.
Oluchi was married in 1969 to the late Mr. Orji of UmuduruEgbeaguru Okigwe in Imo state. Oluchi was married into the Catholic church. Oluchi gave birth to her first child, a son in 1970. Unfortunately, the child died at a young age. Sadly, Oluchi lost many children in the following years.
Oluchi suffered in the hands of her husband and new wife which resulted in the end of the marriage. In 1983, her niece Mrs. Christiana Ulunma Ogbonna rescued Oluchi from the turmoil she was facing in her husband’s house. Oluchi came back to her father’s village where she lived with her mother until 1987. After that, the late Eze Dr. Sampson Udenze and late Chief Mrs. Gloria Udenze sheltered her for one year.
In 1989, Oluchi traveled to the United States of America to help care for the children of Mr. Chukwuma Utah and Dr. Mrs. Chinedum Utah where she became part of their family. Oluchidevoted her years caring for their three children, Lionel Ugochukwu Utah, Michelle Chinedum Nneka Utah, and Nicole Nkechinyere Utah. Oluchi was loved dearly by the children, andthe children referred to her as “Aunty Oluchi—their second mother”. In these years, Oluchi worked to support her mother and family back in Nigeria. One of Oluchi’s biggest accomplishments was building a house for her mother beforeshe died.
Oluchi devoted her life to God. She always read her bible and prayed for her loved ones. Oluchi enjoyed socializing with her community and those around her. This became her identifying quality that everyone loved. Oluchi also helped several families throughout the years. Everyone that knew Oluchi always described her as loving, vibrant, and the most soft-spirited person they have ever met. Oluchi did not hesitate to support anyone that needed help.
Oluchi will be remembered for her beauty, kind-heart, gentle-spirit, intelligence, grace, lovely voice, humor, and devotion to her family and friends. Most importantly, Oluchi will be remembered for her love and strong faith in God.
Oluchi is survived by her brothers and sisters: Chief OkezieNwosu , Engr Charles U Nwosu, Mr. Emeka D Nwosu, Mr.Kenneth O Nwisu, Mr. Henry O Nwosu, Engr Goodluck I Nwosu, Mr. Kelechi E. Nwosu Mrs. Gold Iheonukara, Mrs.Florence I Ikwunze, Mrs. Theresa Ibe, and Caroline C Nwosu, her niece Mrs. Christiana Ulunma Ogbona and her children, her second family, The Utah Family, and her many family and friends that loved her dearly. The world has lost a great one, but Heaven has gained an angel. Oluchi will truly be missed.
May her soul rest in the hands of the Lord.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral service officiated by Sonny Udenze on Wednesday April 7 from 11AM - 12PM at the Volpe Funeral Home, service to follow at 12PM. Gladys will be laid to rest at West Laurie Hill Cemetery.
