Jane Slaff

Jane Peeler Slaff, lovingly known as Janie, Mom, Mémère, and Mimi passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026, at the age of 74. While her family’s hearts are broken by this unimaginable loss, they are deeply grateful for the extraordinary woman she was and the remarkable life she lived. 

Born on July 10, 1951, in Little Rock, Arkansas, Jane spent her childhood in Nashville, Tennessee before eventually raising her own family in Dallas, Pennsylvania. Most recently, she resided in Schwenksville, Pennsylvania. She was the beloved daughter of Jack Peeler and Margaret (McGough) Peeler, whose values of faith, kindness, and perseverance she carried throughout her entire life. 

A devoted woman of faith, Jane lived her life with grace, compassion, and fierce love. She was the kindest soul many had ever known, yet she would fight fearlessly for the people she loved. She gave strength to those who doubted themselves and courage to those facing life’s hardest moments. To know her was truly to love her. 

Jane found her greatest joy in her family. She was a proud and loving mother to Captain Randy Slaff (Maraya Slaff) and Emily Sergio (Tom Sergio). She was an adoring grandmother to Nicholas, Tommy, Taylor, and Isabelle, who were the absolute lights of her life. Whether cheering from the sidelines at sporting events, proudly watching one of her beloved grandchildren sing in church or perform in school plays, playing family games that became treasured traditions, or simply gathering around the table filled with laughter, Jane cherished every moment spent with the people she loved most. She made her family feel endlessly supported, deeply loved, and always capable of accomplishing anything. 

Jane was also blessed with a lifelong friendship that evolved into family. For more than 40 years, she shared an extraordinary bond and sisterhood with her dearest friend, Nancy Hartwell. Through every season of life, celebrations, heartbreaks, laughter, and countless memories, the two remained constant sources of love, strength, and unwavering support for one another. Their friendship was rare, beautiful, and a true testament to the kind of deep connection that only a fortunate few experience in a lifetime. 

Jane dedicated 35 years of her life to Wyoming Seminary, a college preparatory school in Kingston, Pennsylvania. She was a cherished French teacher and Director of College Guidance, but to the countless students, families, faculty, and friends who crossed her path, she was so much more than an educator. She was “Mama Slaff”, the heart and matriarch of the school community. Her classroom and office became places of comfort, encouragement, wisdom, and unwavering belief in others. She had the rare gift of making every person feel seen, valued, and capable of greatness. 

“Sem” became far more than a workplace to her. It became an extension of her family. Among her treasured blessings was the close-knit circle of lifelong friends and colleagues she found there, whose love, laughter, friendship, and unwavering support carried her through life’s many seasons.

She carried a lifelong passion for France, French culture, and the language. One of her favorite quotes, from Le Petit Prince, beautifully reflected the way she lived her life: 

“On ne voit bien qu'avec le cœur. L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux.” 

“One sees clearly only with the heart. What is essential is invisible to the eye.” 

No words can fully capture the impact Jane had on the lives she touched. Her legacy lives on in the countless students she mentored, the family she adored, the friends she uplifted, and the love she poured into the world every single day. 

Memorial arrangements have not yet been determined and more information will be forthcoming.

Though her family aches in her absence, they find comfort in knowing that her extraordinary spirit, unwavering faith, and boundless love will continue to guide them always.
