Janis S. Brown, of Jeffersonville PA, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025, at the age of 82. She was born on October 26, 1942, in Sandusky, Ohio, to the late Chauncey Slayton and Gladys (Mohr) Slayton.
Janis is survived by her devoted husband, Robert R. Bates; her step-son Andrew Bates, her brother, Kenneth Slayton; her son, Jason Brown; and her daughters, Stacy Mill and Lindsay Alison Dickinson. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Janis established herself as a successful realtor in the tri-county area. Alongside her real estate career, she worked part time at Facenda Whitaker Lanes (Our Town Alleys) for 40-years. Similar to her success in real estate, Janis’s love for bowling grew into a competitive sport yielding trophies and high score games. Traveling the eastern seaboard, Janis dominated her age bracket securing many tournament wins. In turn, Janis coached little league bowling to pass down her competitive nature to the local community.
Extending her career from bowling, Janis played on multiple bocce clubs; Bridgeport, East Norriton, and Norristown. Her teammates regarded Jan for her skill and strategy in the sport. Continuing her competitive nature, she secured numerous tournaments with wins and medals in bocce.
Janis’s perky personality and competitive nature will remain in the hearts of bocce teammates, bowlers, with friends and family she has left behind.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service honoring Janis’s life on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Volpe Funeral Home.
