Joan Sprague Obituary

Joan C. Sprague, 88; wife of the late Robert Sprague, died Monday, June 13, 2022, at home with her daughters by her side in Blue Bell, PA. Joan was a loving wife, mother, and friend.

Joan was born in Montclair, N.J. February 16, 1934, to Mr. and Mrs. Harold and Lillian (Kane) Leary. They raised Joan Leary Sprague in Montclair and West Orange, N.J., and she graduated from West Orange High School in 1952. Joan grew up loving her family, the movies, biographies, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, and the Jersey Shore. As a young girl, Joan took ballet lessons for many years and even learned to toe-dance, from which she took much pride and joy.

Growing up in N.J. as a young woman, Joan worked as a secretary for Mutual of Omaha insurance company in Newark. Joan Leary’s love of the Jersey Shore took her to Point Pleasant Beach, where she met and eventually married Robert J. Sprague, the love of her
life. Together they raised their two daughters, Robin and Jackie Sprague in Toms River, and Point Pleasant Beach N.J.

A few things Joan loved most were her husband and two daughters, Jesus, her adopted Blanco sisters, her friends, and FLORIDA. Joan loved the life she and Bob Sprague shared in the sunshine state for over 22 years. The last three voices that made our mother smile
before passing (and many friends called in to share their love and prayers with her) were her adopted Blanco sisters, Josie Marks and Rita Marino, and the son of the late Julie Blanco Taggart, Bob Taggart. She was fortunate to share her golden years with all of them and many others in Daytona Beach, FL.

Surviving Joan are her two daughters, Robin Sprague and Jacqueline Sprague of Blue Bell, PA, and her favorite 16-year-old Yorkie, Mickey! Joan is also survived by her cousin Jimmy Roberts and his wife Adel Roberts of Peapack, N.J. Jim Roberts was more like a brother to her throughout her life, and between the two of them, we are not sure who is the funniest or best storyteller.
Joan’s naturally optimistic spirit, wildly witty sense of humor, super storytelling abilities, curious and steadfast faith, and fiercely loving heart will be remembered and missed by those who knew and loved her.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial service on Friday, July 8 from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm at the Volpe Funeral Home, 707 West Germantown Pike at Whitehall Rd. East Norriton, PA.
