John J. Heck CPA
Nov 3, 1947 – October 18, 2025
John J. Heck, CPA passed away peacefully at Paoli Hospital on October 18, 2025 at the age of 77. The couple just celebrated their wedding anniversary on September 25th.. He was a resident of Phoenixville, PA since September 2003 and resided there with his wife, Laurie Dunne, who survives him.
John was born in Philadelphia, the eldest son of Margaret Lord Heck and John Francis Heck. He is survived by 3 brothers, Christopher Heck, Gary Heck, and Robert Heck, their wives,Betty, Jeanie, and Kathy respectively, nieces Jamie, Shannonand Meghan; nephews Christopher, Kevin, Keith, Jack, and Matthew; and grandchildren, Brian, Justin, Sean, Katherine; Hudson and Tucker. Chase and Katelyn.
John attended Saint Timothy Grade School, Father Judge High School, La Salle College, and Drexel University. He obtained an undergraduate degree in accounting from La Sale College and a graduate degree in Business Administration from Drexel University. While working in public accounting, he obtained his CPA license.
John loved the beach and spent most of his free time in Avalon and Stone Harbor whenever he had the opportunity. He spent consecutive summers in a group house and met a lot of close friends, many of whom continue to keep in touch. John spent many hours studying real estate at the NJ shore and after graduate school, he began purchasing homes there as investmentproperties. He owned several shore homes and continued to buy and sell homes for many years. He eventually became a licensed realtor in NJ and helped a few of his close friends purchase homes there.
After leaving Public Accounting, John worked in financial operations for Glaxo Smith Kline assisting with operations in Latin America. He later founded his own CPA Practice in King of Prussia, PA. John met his wife, Laurie, who contacted him regarding tax opportunities at his Firm. They resided in Penn Valley for a short period of time before they purchased their home together in Phoenixville. After over a year of renovations, they moved in on September 30, 2003.
John always wanted to help other people and organizations who were less fortunate. He regularly funded various cancer charities such as Pete’s Sake, local shore charity fundraisers, women’s shelters at the shore, Church Clothing Fundraisers. and the couple continuously donated blankets and supplies to the Cape May County Animal Shelter on Shelter Road in CMCH, NJ, where they adopted two cats.
John enjoyed spending time with his family and being invited to the various activities which their children participated in. He always wanted to get them something special on their birthday or during the holidays.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing and Funeral Mass on Friday, October 24th. The viewing will begin at 9 am at the Church followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am. Both the viewing and the Funeral Mass will be held at St. Issac Jogues Church, 50 West Walker Road, Wayne, PA 19087.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in John’s memory to ACCT Philly, 111 W. Hunting Park Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19140 and reference Betty, Shelter Pet ID # 119518. Betty was the dog Laurie fostered which the couple decided to adopt. Betty was renamed to Livy. John loved Livy and Livy helped John emotionally during his battle with cancer and during his recovery from cancer.
