Joyce Causey

Joyce Luiendia Causey, affectionately known as Joycie, Shorty, Ma and her most beloved title of Mom Mom made her grand entrance into the world on June 24, 1947. Born to Ralph A. Harrison and Helen Dunn Harrison Blackwell in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Joyce was one of eight children and beloved by her parents.   

Joyce grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from the Murrell Dobbins Career and Technical Education High School at the age of 17. While in high school she began what would be a 38-year career with Bell Atlantic Company (which later became known as Verizon). After a brief stint at the Community College of Philadelphia, her independent spirit led her back to Bell Atlantic where she rose through the ranks to the role of senior manager.  She retired from Verizon (formerly Bell Atlantic) after 38 years of faithful employment. 

On July 12, 1975 Joyce married her husband of 45 years, Mitchell Samuel Causey. They were the proud parents of two children -Michele Luiendia Causey and Mitchell Harrison Causey.  While a proud mother, one of her favorite roles was that of grandmother to Kirstyn Michele Causey, Tyra Cierra Brown, and Ayala Milan Causey.  She lived for her weekly calls with her first grand and college honor student Kirstyn, cherished the time spent with Tyra as she grew into a beautiful young lady beginning her collegiate career, and embraced Ayala’s energy and confident spirit as she took pride in caring for her during the day.  A memorable visit to the performance of The Lion King with her granddaughters was just one of many ways she was able to also share her love for the arts, theater, and music with them. Joyce also loved to travel, and visited France, the Bahamas and Mexico on her many adventures. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading, dancing, and most of all taking gambles in life. 

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Helen Marie, Ralph Jr., Deborah and David.

Joyce peacefully transitioned to eternal rest on Sunday, January 24, 2021 while surrounded by her cherished loved ones.

She is survived by her loving husband, Mitchell, her daughter, Michele, and her son, Mitchell.  In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by her grandchildren Kirstyn, Tyra, and Ayala; her siblings Barbara, James and Michael, in-laws Charles Causey, Willa Causey (Thomas), Ida Causey, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, including special cousins Joyce Armstrong and Dorcus Harrison, and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral service on Saturday January 30, 2020 at 11AM at the Volpe Funeral Home. Viewing will be held from 10:30 - 11:00AM.
