Kathleen “Kathie” Gordon Mullaney, 69, of Newtown Square, PA, passed away peacefully at her home on September 20, 2025.
Born on December 10, 1955, in Columbus, Ohio, Kathie was the daughter of the late Benjamin Joseph Gordon and Catherine Brown Gordon. She was the fifth of seven children and spent her early childhood in Chappaqua, New York before her family relocated to Radnor Township, PA. She attended Radnor High School and later graduated from Lasell College in Boston, MA.
Kathie built a career in retail, most notably as an award-winning store manager at Ann Taylor in Suburban Square. Known for her leadership, creativity, and care for her colleagues, she found great joy in her work. In her later years, she also brought her eye for design and artistry to roles at J.Crew and Williams-Sonoma.
After marrying Michael Mullaney, Kathie devoted herself to raising their three children—Maggie (Bill), Spencer, and Connor. She was her children’s most devoted supporter, spending countless hours cheering them on at sporting events and filling their home with unconditional love. Summers in Sea Isle City and the companionship of her many pets over the years - nine dogs, two cats, two parakeets and a bunny—brought her tremendous happiness.
One of the greatest joys of her life came in 2024 with the birth of her granddaughter, Scarlett Catherine Straccia. To Scarlett, she was “Madge”—a role she embraced wholeheartedly and exceptionally, with endless love and delight.
Kathie’s passions extended beyond her family. She was an avid gardener, painter, and voracious reader. A lifelong student of the arts, she expressed her discerning eye through the unique and playful collections she curated in her home, including her well-loved “Wall of Disapproving Women.” She also cherished the simple pleasures—coffee, naps, baking, and champagne—and created lasting traditions, most notably her annual Christmas Eve parties, which brought family and friends together in festive celebration.
She will be remembered for her warmth, humor, creativity, and irreplaceable quirkiness. Kathie’s legacy lives on in her children, her beloved granddaughter, and the many friendships she nurtured with love and laughter.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to the American Bouvier Rescue League.
