Lewis Santangelo Obituary

Lewis H. Santangelo passed away Saturday October 31, 2020 at the age of 94.

 

Lewis was born on November 16, 1925 to Biagio and Giovanna (DiFrancisi) Santangelo, the youngest of nine siblings.

 

He was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Bartolomei) Santangelo.

Surviving are his seven children Sharon Santangelo Naseef (Rich), Johanna Salamandra  (Harry), Lewis Santangelo (Bonnie), Philip Santangelo (Blythe), Julie Santangelo, Blaise Santangelo (Ellen), Michael Santangelo (Kristen); grandchildren Kate, Maxx, Jacob, Donald, Austin, Harrison, Tessa, Tyler, Jeffery, Lewis, Blaise, Cecily, Nicholas, Juliana, Gabriel, Matthew, Oliver, Amanda; and great-grandchildren Maxxine, Mary, Thea, Benjamin.  He was fondly known as “Uncle Lew” by his many nieces and nephews.

 

Lew and Mary lived and raised their family in the Betzwood area of West Norriton and were members of St. Teresa's of Avila  Parish. Lew spent his later years at Brightview Senior living in East Norriton.

 

Lew graduated from Norristown High School Class of 1944.  In January 1944, Lewis enlisted in the US Navy.  On June 6, 1944 he was aboard the LST 372 in the Invasion of Normandy at Omaha Beach, France.  As a Seaman 1st class on the Landing Craft 372, he participated in 32 runs across the English Channel bringing troops and supplies to support the invasion. He served in the Pacific theater near the end of WWII.


Mr. Santangelo  was a retired sales manager for John Hancock life insurance company.

 

Lew was a passionate baker and took great pride in sharing his pies, cookies, and treats with all that came to know him. He rarely missed his daily walks, and the weekly “coffee klatch” with his friends .

 

He will be remembered as a happy vibrant soul who loved his family above all.


Funeral mass and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. 
 

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Montgomery County Association of the Blind.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of the Volpe funeral home.
