Marsiella Auriemma

Marsiella (Biancaniello) Auriemma, 91, beloved wife of the late Donato Auriemma, passed away peacefully at her Phoenixville home on Thursday, December 8, 2022. Born in Montella, Italy on June 11, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Alessandro and Angiolina (Romaniello) Biancaniello. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi church in Norristown.

In 1961, Mrs. Auriemma traveled from Italy with her three children to join her husband in Norristown. The Auriemma household was filled with warmth, the aroma of Italian cooking, and the sound of children laughing. Affectionately called Nonna by family and friends, she enjoyed tending her vegetable garden, taking long walks with her grandchildren, and knitting or crocheting. Today, everyone treasures their cozy blankets and scarves handmade by Nonna.

After her husband’s death in 1997, Mrs. Auriemma moved to Phoenixville, where she continued the tradition of never allowing anyone to leave her house hungry. She also enjoyed watching UConn Women’s Basketball games on TV, but kept her eyes closed if the team wasn’t winning by 20 points or more.

Mrs. Auriemma is survived by two sons: Geno (Kathy) and Ferruccio (Diane) Auriemma, a daughter: Anna Kraynak (Ed), brother: Antonio Biancaniello, sister: Vincenza Biancaniello, grandchildren: Carla, Nicholas, Jenna, Alysa, Marsia, Donato, Michael, and Stephanie, nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was especially fond of her niece, Josephine Valerio, and close family friend, Michele Frangiosa. Mrs. Auriemma was predeceased by three sisters: Gemma, Maria, and Lucia.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass on Tuesday, December 13 at 12:30 PM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Norristown. Viewing will be held on Tuesday at the church from 10 to 12:15 PM. Entombment will be in St. Patrick's Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to a Charity that benefits children. Funeral arrangements are in the care of the Volpe Funeral Home.
