Mary Dimitry Obituary

The family of Mary Theresa Tallarida Dimitry announces with great sorrow the unexpected passing of our brave, loving, and incredibly generous wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Mary passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on February 21, 2023.

Mary was born in Montour Falls, NY on January 8, 1938, the daughter of Angelina Carbone and Antonio Tallarida. The family settled in Elkland, PA where she attended Elkland schools and lived until she found the love of her life James J. Dimitry Jr. They were married June 16, 1956.

After raising her own three children, she started working at the daycare where her grandchildren attended. It was at this daycare that she created lasting relationships with her co-workers. This small group of ladies were very close and supportive to one another for the rest of their lives. After working at the daycare, she became a teacher’s aide. She also worked as a cafeteria supervisor, and a food safety supervisor at a local private school. Mary always loved children. Her service to them, which began in the daycare, continued throughout her life.

Mary was very devoted to her family. She loved cooking, especially around the holidays and for big family gatherings. She taught her family the importance of love, loyalty and to treat everyone with care and respect. Mary loved to sing and dance and had an extremely contagious laugh. She loved gardening and believed it was therapy, good for the body and soul.

Mary is survived and forever missed by her loving husband of 66 years, Jimmy Dimitry, her siblings Catherine Burfield (Clinton) and Jack Tallarida (Audrey) and Mary and Jimmy’sthree children, Steve Dimitry (Lisa), Linda Kidd (Norm) and Dannine Carpentier (Raymond). She will be forever remembered by her grandchildren, Holly, Stephanie and Jimmy Dimitry, Nathan (Jenny) and Samantha Kidd, and Kayla Kohler(Branden), and her great grand children, Aleeha, Nicholas and Kinsley Kidd.

Her memory further lives on with her nieces and nephews and will be missed by so many cousins and their extended families that she kept so dear to her heart.

The closeness she shared with her children extended to their friends too. She opened up her door to all of them and enjoyed cooking and sitting around for hours talking and sharing the warmth of her home. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Angelina and Antonio Tallarida.

Family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 9:00 to 10:00am with a funeral mass following at Visitation BVM Church, Trooper Road, West Norriton, PA, 19403. Mary will be laid to rest at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Norristown, Pa.
