Mary A. West, beloved matriarch, devoted mother, and cherished friend, peacefully went to be with her Lord on December 13, 2024, in the early morning in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. She was 90 years old.
Mary was born in Norristown, PA on November 8, 1934 to the late Henry and Angeline (Mazzarella) Almeida. She cherished her Italian and Portuguese heritage and took great pride in her family’s rich cultural background. Raised in the Black Horse area of Plymouth, she developed friendships that endured throughout her life. Mary grew up living in her Grandparents’ home where her faith and love for the Lord were greatly influenced by her Grandmother, Antionetta Mazzarella, who founded an Italian Pentecostal church in her garage on Jefferson street. Although Mary's last few years were lived in Jonestown, she spent most of her life in the Plymouth Meeting area, along with a cherished 15-year chapter in Salisbury, Maryland. Mary dedicated her life to the Lord and the ministry of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, a commitment that remained steadfast until her final moments.
Mary is survived by her two daughters, Suzanne Hammaker, married to Mark of Jonestown, and Sharisse West of Norristown; her cousin Lin Fusaro of Plymouth Meeting; and three adoring grandchildren, Mark Hammaker, Laura Lipinsky, and Aimee Hammaker, married to Duane. She was a proud great-grandmother to five, including Dawson, Zachery, Adeline, Jameson, and Hailee. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Anson, and her grandson, Stephen Hammaker, and brother, Joseph Almeida.
From a young age, Mary worked alongside her family at their nursing home, The Sunrise Rest Home in Trooper, where she began her lifelong journey of caring for others. A gifted pianist, she and Anson were worship leaders for Calvary Pentecostal Church on Center Avenue in Norristown, which later became Park Avenue Assembly of God. Her musical ministry continued even after relocating to Salisbury, Maryland.
Mary's home was a sanctuary for family gatherings, where she joyfully hosted Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, filling her home with laughter, love, and delicious meals. Her incredible spirit and unwavering kindness touched everyone she encountered, leaving a lasting legacy of love and faith.
Mary West was an amazing, loving woman whose presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew her. She was a blessing to everyone she met, and her memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family and friends. As we celebrate her life, we honor her unwavering faith, her loving spirit, and the profound impact she made on our lives.
