Richard A. Penrod, Jr. “Dick”, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. He was the son of the late Richard and Florence (Wicks) Penrod, Sr. He was the beloved husband of Josephine “Josie” (Bondi) Penrod for 36 years.
Dick Penrod was born in Philadelphia on March 9, 1932, and was a resident of Collegeville for many years. Dick was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He retired from the former Bell Atlantic Telephone Company as Regional Manager. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, and the Palestine-Roxborough Masonic Lodge, and LuLu Shriners. Dick was amember of the AMA Academy of Model Aeronautics, and was Team Manager seven times at the USA World Championships; he was Flight Director at the Tournament of Champions held every two years in Las Vegas. He was a member of the Reilly Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps playing a bugle and was a former Personnel Manager and former Director. He and a friendformed the Reilly Raiders Oldtimers Fund to send flowers to cheer up any hospitalized Reilly Oldtimers. He enjoyed photography all his life taking pictures in his earlier days forfriends’ weddings, and at all the Reilly Raiders parades and concerts, at sporting events for family and friends, he took manypictures of singers and entertainers at Sunnybrook, The Valley Forge Music Fair and when dining and partying with anybody.He touched many lives, will be sorely missed and will live in our hearts forever.
He is survived by 2 daughters; Reverend Nancy L. (Robert) Penrod Moore and Sharon Lee (Harry) Schwarz; 5 stepchildren,Joanne (Ron) McCurdy, Richard (Lisa) DiRico, Robert (Nancy) DiRico, Karen (John) Jimenez and Sharon (Rob) Ritson; 17grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial services on Friday, April 8 from 10 to 11 AM followed by services at the Saint Andrews Lutheran Church, 2725 Egypt Rd., Audubon, PA. Burial will follow at the Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, King of Prussia. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Volpe Funeral Home, East Norriton. Volpefh.com
