Rita Lewis Obituary

Rita E. Lewis, 91, formerly of South River, NJ peacefully passed away early morning January 23, 2020 while living at Columbia Cottage in Collegeville, PA.

She was born in Mount Carmel PA to John and Ana Radzevich on January 17, 1929.  She was a graduate of Mount Carmel Area High School.  At age 18 she moved to New York City with her sister.  While in New York City she met her future husband, the late George P. Lewis.  They were married in 1956 and for 56 years until he passed away in 2012.  They lived and raised their family in South River, NJ where they were blessed with two beautiful daughters and five grandchildren, which brought her great joy.

Rita was an avid reader and enjoyed walking.  She was a member of Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church in South River for close to 60 years where she usually walked to the services.  She worked as an associate at Macy’s for over twenty years.  Her volunteer work included being a Girl Scout Leader and helping at the South River Food Bank. 

She is survived by both daughters Elizabeth Zeigler and her husband Tim of Collegeville PA and Joan Casarella and her husband Jerry of Asbury Park, NJ as well as five grandchildren, Brian Zeigler, Dianne Zeigler, Kristin Zeigler, Sarah Casarella and Daniel Casarella,  She is also survived by her sister, Anastasia(Stell) Segui of East Brunswick. 

In addition to her husband George Lewis, she was preceded in death by siblings Anne Morony, Mary Orzachowski, Emily Bendena, John Radzevich and Adele Lewis. 

A memorial service will be held in the spring in South River as she requested.  In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the South River Library, 55 Appleby Avenue, South River, NJ 08882.
