Shawn Patrick Britt passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at the age of 61 after a year-long battle with cancer. He was born in Philadelphia on June 8, 1961 to Carol (Martinchick) Saeger and the late John Britt. Shawn is survived by many family members and dear friends, including his mother, his beloved daughter, Alyssa Britt, his brother Danny Britt, sister Colleen Britt, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and “friends who became family” Rachel and John Machen and Stephanie Okeson. Shawn was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and he worked for many years as a counselor in various local substance use disorder treatment facilities.
Shawn was a passionate golfer, and didn’t let his blindness interfere with his love for the game. Instead, he joined a blind golfer’s association and continued to work on his skills. He also loved to paint super hero models, especially those of the Incredible Hulk. However, his biggest passion was always his own personal recovery and his membership in Narcotics Anonymous, especially the countless men he sponsored in this process. Shawn was active in the fellowship for over 34 years and his death will leave a certain void in our recovery community. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of being his friend.
All friends and relatives are invited to celebrate Shawn’s life and legacy at Volpe Funeral Home at 707 W. Germantown Pike, Norristown, PA on Monday, December 19, 2022, starting with visitation at 1130am, followed by a memorial service at 1230pm. A luncheon will be held immediately following the service at Presidential Caterers, 2019 DeKalb Pike, Norristown, PA. All are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, Shawn has requested memorial contributions be sent to Project Refit, a PTSD peer-to-peer support network, at projectrefit.us or that we all simply help someone who may be struggling, as he always sought to help us all fulfill our primary purpose and was famous for asking everyone, “Who ya helping?”
