Sylvia Veronica Belgrove

Sylvia Veronica Belgrove passed away on April 28, 2025.  She was born on February 17, 1945, in Port of Spain, Trinidad, West Indies. She moved to the United States in her late teens. She began her career and started her family in Brooklyn, New York, followed by a well-deserved retirement in Houston, Texas. She finally moved to Pennsylvania to spend time with her daughter and grandchildren.   She dedicated much of her professional life to the telecommunications industry, working with Verizon until her retirement.

Sylvia was the beloved daughter of the late Cyril Arjoon and Ena Commissiong. She is survived by her loving daughter, Beverley Ferguson, and son-in-law, Joseph Ferguson III. She was a proud grandmother to Joseph Ferguson IV and Peyton Ferguson.

She is also lovingly survived by her cherished siblings: Cynthia Allen, Charmaine Commissiong, and Irmaine Commissiong. She was preceded in death by her beloved siblings Timothy Joseph, Evans “Harry” Joseph, and George Joseph. Sylvia also leaves behind a large and loving circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will remember her with deep affection.  

Sylvia had a passion for travel and appreciated different cultures and foods. She particularly enjoyed cruises, sandy beaches and anywhere with a garden. She had a green thumb, and loved tending to her plants and flowers.

She was a devoted member of her Catholic Church community, finding joy and purpose in supporting parish events such as fundraisers and food drives. She served with faith and dedication as treasurer of Saint Ignatius in Texas for more than three years.

A calling hour will be held on May 8th from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Volpe Funeral Home, followed by a prayer service at 6:00 PM led by Father Robert Gross of Visitation Church.

She will be remembered for her devotion to faith, family, and the warmth she brought to every life she touched.
